Puna Orchids was founded on July 5, 1985. It started as, and continues to this day as a family run business that prides itself on creating a harmonious work environment that results in allowing team members the opportunity to achieve professional excellence. The resultant high quality plants, outstanding customer service and dynamic esprit de corps is indicative of the philosophy of the company. The relationship and interaction between our team and our customers is just as important as the transaction itself.
With the advent of express delivery service by FEDEX in the mid 1980’s, Puna Orchids pioneered the process of direct delivery of shelf ready blooming Dendrobium orchid plants from Hawaii to clients and retailers and remains the market leader today. Our order fulfillment process is quite unique and results in consistent quality control and satisfied customers. Our customer service is unsurpassed and committed to working to meet clients needs.
The Big Island
Our home, the Big Island, has so much to offer both residents and visitors. We are home to one of the most active volcanoes in the world, Kilauea. There are live webcams where you can have a look at the excitement any time and live updates where you can check out whats going on. We are a world-class haven for astronomy with 13 major observatories atop the 13,796 ft summit of Mauna Kea. We have a wonderful astronomy center beloved by residents and visitors alike. And for you golf lovers, the Big Island is a second-to-none destination for endless new, challenging and exciting golf courses.
Our Neighbors, Our Neighborhood
We are located on 10 acres in the Puna district on the island of Hawaii in the quiet town of Kapoho. We are about 30 minutes from the Historic Downtown Hilo and about 30 minutes from the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. All throughout the area, one can witness the magnificent effects of the many Kilauea lava flows and the most recent 1960 eruption from a crater only a few miles away. Just up the road is the Puna Geothermal power plant which produces nearly 15% of the island's power while burning absolutely no fuel of any kind and therefore producing no combustion emissions. Also, we neighbor the famous Kapoho Beach Lots, a famous vacation desitnation featuring lovely Hawaiian bungalows, natural hot springs, great surf and quiet beach access. We love our neighborhood and work hard to protect it.
Environmental Responsibility/Alternative Energy
We also feel that the responsible use of our environment is of paramount importance. We have made a uncompromising commitment to devloping methods and processes that are more ecologically responsible. In 2005, even before it was trendy to be green, we installed a solar power system with a large enough capacity to provide 100% of the power requirements for the operation of our business. Since that time, our system has shown it is capable not only of providing all the power we need, but we have become a net exporter into the Big Island of Hawaii's power grid.
